Cem Berk Senel, Steven Goderis and Philippe Claeys attended the ESA Workshop "Impact in the Solar System and Across Spatial Scales" held at ESA -ESAC in Madrid from February 09 to 11 2026.
The aim of the workshop was to prepare future ESA missions to icy worlds by documenting the effects of collisions on ice-covered planets, such as Europa and Ganymede.
This is done by examining the full range of impactors, from micrometeorites to very large projectiles (>10 km). Several major topics were addressed:
- Detecting and Characterizing Impact-Generated Exospheres;
- Micro-Impacts and Regolith Evolution: Experiments, Samples and Shock Modeling;
- Impact Driven Volatile Cycles and Habitability on Icy Worlds.
