Andrei Kedich
Biography
During my undergraduate education, I primarily focused on assessing surface changes in mountainous environments using various Earth Observation data, which was the topic of my thesis. To complete my master's studies, I was awarded the prestigious Science@Leuven Scholarship (Jan de Ploey). For my master's thesis, I worked with sediment yield data on a large scale to assess the degree of human impact.
Currently, I am a joint PhD student at KU Leuven and Vrije Universiteit Brussel since 2023. I am working on the FWO-funded project "Terraces as a land management strategy in the Eastern Mediterranean: a long-term perspective" under the supervision of Ralf Vandam (VUB) and Matthias Vanmaercke (KUL). My specific goals within the project are to identify terraces in the study areas of Sagalassos (Türkiye) and Hala Sultan-Tekke (Cyprus) and analyze their locations in relation to natural and anthropogenic factors. Additionally, I will assess the impact of terraces on geomorphology and erosion over time. Finally, I will reconstruct the evolution of the effects of terrace construction on crop yields, considering various irrigation scenarios throughout the rich history of the study areas.
