Biography
Tom worked on mapping Floods in Brussels with AMGC from 2013-2015
Holding a Master of Science in Geography, specialised in Terrestrial Ecosystems and Climate Change (VUB, 2012), his expertise focuses on the implementation of geo-physical knowledge in spatial planning and decision-making processes. His research primarily centres primarily around the improvement of the water cycle dynamics to reduce flood and drought risks in collaboration with local stakeholders. He also gained significant competences in the outreach of geographic knowledge to a wider audience (all ages) and the coordination of outreach programmes.
He works at the Centre for mobility and spatial planning (AMRP) at the Ghent University since February 2018. He was involved in the Interreg FRAMES-project till June 2020 that aimed at increasing the resilience of flood prone areas through spatial planning, community resilience and recovery actions. He currently works for the ESPON-TNO programme organising events (conferences, roundtables, peer learningworkshops) and editing technical reports (territorial fiche). The objective of the TNO programme is to promote transnational outreach of ESPON scientific knowledge to regional stakeholders.
