Stratigraphers from all over the world met in Suzhou (China) for STRATI2026 to discuss the latest advances in the field. PhD student Naihua Xue and Prof. Philippe Claeys represented AMGC.
Former AMGC’ers Profs David De Vleeschouwer (Univ. Muenster) and Matthias Sinnesael (Trinity College Dublin) also attend.
At this event, David was awarded the International Commission on Stratigraphy medal. This medal is given for exceptional contribution in the field of stratigraphy. David very much deserves it for his substantial contribution to the identification and application of astronomical forcing mechanisms in pre-Cenozoic stratigraphy. His research addresses some of the most challenging questions in stratigraphy: whether Milankovic cycles can be preserved, distinguished, and interpreted in ancient sedimentary records and whether they serve as a quantitative base for chronology.
The meeting was held from June 29 to July 3rd at the Kunshan Crown International Exhibition Hotel, Jiangsu, Province in China. This was a great well organized meeting and the opportunity to see old friends and meet new colleagues to initiate future collaborators.
